Instagram and Facebook ads for clinics in India: what to check before you post

Clinics and hospitals can use social media to educate patients and build trust. In India, medical practitioners must follow the National Medical Commission's ethics rules and general advertising standards, which restrict how a doctor or clinic may promote services. This article is a general guide, not legal advice. Check the current rules with your medical council before you publish.

What clinics are usually told to avoid

  • Patient testimonials and reviews used as promotion.
  • Before-and-after photos and claims of guaranteed results.
  • Claims that you are the best, or better than another doctor.
  • Discounts, limited-time offers and pressure to book now, which are usually treated as solicitation.
  • Promotional use of a doctor's photo where the rules do not allow it.

What works well instead

  • Educational posts that explain a condition, a procedure or a myth in simple words.
  • Short videos in which the doctor explains what to expect at a visit. Keep these educational: do not promote offers or invite people to book.
  • Facts about your clinic, such as services offered, timings and location.
  • Reminders for health days and seasonal care.

Ads for clinics

Meta and Google also have their own policies for health ads. They limit how you can describe health conditions and target people. Ask your agency which of these apply before a campaign starts.

Approvals matter

Every post should be approved by the doctor before it goes live, with a record of who approved it and when. This protects the doctor and the agency.

Patient data

If you collect enquiries through forms, keep the data safe, collect only what you need, and tell people how you will use it.

Questions, answered.
